ITKN Project Update April 2026:

The Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska’s energy systems project has progressed through detailed engineering and is advancing toward final design completion.

All major systems, including solar panels, battery energy storage, microgrid controls, and site infrastructure, have been integrated into the design. The main equipment, such as transformers and solar parts, are now being purchased—positioning our team to build once plans are approved.

The project continues to be developed in coordination with Tribal leadership, federal partners, and engineering teams to ensure alignment with program requirements and long-term community goals.

Recent Milestones

  • Completed 60% engineering design across all major systems
  • Advanced 90% design for civil and mechanical plans
  • Submitted Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) to EPA for final approval
  • Received EPA approval to proceed with geotechnical pull-out testing
  • Initiated procurement for major electrical equipment
  • Continued coordination with Tribal leadership and federal stakeholders

Community Engagement

ITKN and GS3 are committed to maintaining open communication with the community throughout the project lifecycle. Outreach efforts include newsletters, social media updates, surveys, and in-person events to share progress, gather input, and ensure alignment with community priorities.

What’s Next

  • Finalize engineering design packages
  • Complete the purchase of major equipment
  • Prepare for construction mobilization and site activities
  • Continue community engagement and stakeholder coordination

Projected Impact

This project represents a significant step toward energy sovereignty for the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska. By integrating renewable energy with advanced microgrid technology, the Tribe is building a resilient energy system that supports economic development, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability.

About GS3’s Work With ITKN

The Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska (ITKN) is partnering with Grey Snow Sovereign Solutions (GS3) to build a reliable energy system in order to attain energy sovereignty. This system will help the community stay independent, lower costs, and be prepared for the future.

The project integrates solar panels, battery energy storage, backup generation, and advanced microgrid controls to provide reliable power for critical Tribal infrastructure.
