Course Outcomes

By the end of this training program, you’ll learn the following:

Basics of Solar Power and Microgrid Systems Understand how solar PV systems work and how they integrate with batteries, inverters, and other microgrid components.

Work Safety on Real-World Solar Installations Practice essential safety protocols and job-site behavior while learning how solar crews operate in the field.

Racking Systems and Solar Module Installation Train on ground-mount, roof-mount, and ballasted systems using the same tools and practices used in the field.

Power Flow and Grid Integration Install and connect microinverters and string inverters to convert and deliver usable power from solar arrays.

How to Wire, Ground, and Connect a Full System Gain confidence with conduit, load centers, disconnects, and automated transfer switches in grid-tied and off-grid settings.

Vetting Energy Storage Options Install and commission battery systems like Tesla Powerwall, and learn how they support microgrid reliability and energy independence.

Commissioning and Testing of Solar Systems for Operation Complete system testing, verification, and performance checks to ensure everything is ready for long-term service.

Do I need any prior experience in solar or energy systems?

No experience is necessary. This course is designed to take you from the basics to hands-on field work without any previous training or knowledge.

What’s the difference between this and a certification course?

This is a fundamentals course that prepares you for workforce entry. It won’t replace NABCEP or OSHA certifications, but it will help you succeed in those next steps if you choose to pursue them.

Where is the training held?

At SolarTAC in Aurora, Colorado, our 74-acre solar technology demonstration site with active systems and jobsite simulation zones.

Is financial assistance available?

Yes, funding support is available for many Tribal participants and communities. When you sign up for more information, we’ll help you explore available options.

Will I be qualified to get a job after this?

You’ll be ready to join a solar installation crew with foundational knowledge, safety practices, and hands-on experience under your belt.
