Comprehensive Feasibility Studies for Tribal Energy Projects

Assess site conditions, technical requirements, and project viability to establish a clear path toward building resilient renewable energy systems.

A Full Suite of Assessments to Guide Development

Site & Resource Assessment

Land conditions, solar potential, and site constraints are evaluated to determine whether the location can support reliable renewable energy development.

Energy Load & Demand Analysis

Historical energy use, peak demand, and critical facilities are analyzed to size systems that match the community’s daily and emergency power needs.

Grid & Interconnection Evaluation Development

Local utility infrastructure and interconnection points are reviewed to understand how a microgrid or solar system would integrate—or operate independently.

Preliminary System Design & Modeling

Engineering models simulate different mixes of solar, storage, and controls to reveal performance expectations and the most viable system configurations.

Environmental & Permitting Scoping

Permitting pathways, environmental review requirements, and cultural considerations are mapped early to prevent delays and ensure compliance.

Cost & Infrastructure Planning

Major cost categories, equipment needs, and required infrastructure upgrades are outlined to build a clear roadmap for funding and long-term development.

A Proven Method for Understanding What’s Possible

Our process gives Tribal leaders the necessary information to confirm feasibility, understand requirements, and decide the best path forward.

1

Discovery & Alignment

Early conversations, goal-setting, and data gathering clarify priorities, community needs, and long-term energy goals.

2

Site & Resource Evaluation

On-the-ground assessments, solar resource analysis, and infrastructure reviews establish the physical and technical viability of each location.

3

Load & Grid Analysis

On-the-ground assessments, solar resource analysis, and infrastructure reviews establish the physical and technical viability of each location.

4

System Modeling & Scenarios

Multiple configurations—solar, storage, microgrid controls—are modeled to compare performance, reliability, and long-term community benefits.

5

Environmental & Permitting Review

Regulatory requirements, cultural considerations, and permitting pathways are identified early to prevent delays in later development stages.

6

Cost & Infrastructure Scoping

Major cost categories, equipment needs, and upgrade requirements are outlined to shape funding strategies and next-step planning.

7

Final Report & Recommendations

Findings are compiled into a clear, actionable roadmap that helps the Tribe determine feasibility, pursue funding, and prepare for full project development.

Preparing Tribes for Energy Development

The value of a feasibility study lies in its ability to guide next steps—technically, financially, and operationally.

Detailed System & Infrastructure Recommendations

Outputs include preliminary system designs, equipment needs, grid requirements, and environmental considerations tailored to your site and goals.

Clear Cost & Implementation Scoping

Cost categories, infrastructure upgrades, and procurement considerations are broken down to support budget planning and future proposals.

Ready for Design, Grants, and Community Decision-Making

Each study concludes with actionable recommendations that prepare the Tribe for engineering design, funding applications, and leadership approvals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ

A feasibility study evaluates site conditions, solar potential, community energy loads, grid infrastructure, environmental requirements, and high-level cost categories. The final report provides clear recommendations on whether renewable energy is viable—and what it will take to develop it.

Most studies take 3–6 months, depending on the number of sites, data availability, and utility cooperation. We build timelines around Tribal schedules and keep leadership updated throughout the process.

You’ll receive a full feasibility report, preliminary system designs, modeled performance scenarios, cost categories, environmental/permitting notes, and clear recommendations for next steps, including funding pathways.

Not always. The purpose of the study is to determine if the project is technically, financially, and logistically viable. Sometimes the answer is “not yet,” and the report will outline what needs to change for the project to become feasible in the future.

We help gather what’s available, request missing data from utilities, and use industry tools to fill gaps. Lack of perfect data won’t stop the study—we build accurate models either way.

Yes. While not a full O&M plan, the study outlines expected maintenance needs, workforce opportunities, and what skill sets the Tribe may want to develop for long-term energy independence.

The report becomes the roadmap for next steps—grant applications, detailed engineering, environmental reviews, procurement planning, and eventual construction. GS3 can stay involved through every later phase if the Tribe chooses.
